The farm “La Rasa” has been the property of the Matengoli family since 1933 and is located in the north-west part of the Brunello DOCG. Wine production began in 1988 and is bottled under the La Serena brand. It began modestly as a 1-hectare estate but has grown to 8.5 ha. today. The estate is farmed with both organic and bio-dynamic techniques. The Brunello is 100% Sangiovese Grosso grown on 8.5 Ha of vineyards located in the north-west side of Montalcino, a selection of older plots. Harvest normally occurs during the first two weeks of October. Average yield is approximately 60 ql per hectare because of the green harvest conducted during August. The wine is fermented on the skins for 18 days, followed by 2 years of aging in 20 hl. barrels, 10% new.
